Nice armatus! Looks identical like mine! I see yours has a horizontal streak on it's tail. Does anyone know how an armatus gets it?

o cool i was hoping it would be an armatus i got it a month or two ago off of ebay for 40$ hahaha looks like i lucked out! and thank you lix.ma14 and djaalix for responding.

Absolutely no doubt: that's an armatus.

Please elaborate what you're referring to on this guy. I remember you asking. Are you talking about the point in the middle? The lighter colored part of the fin leading into the point?

yup thelight colored streak. horizontally.

That is a part of the fin that has the thickest rays and the fastest growth rate. It's the primary ray in the tail. Most characin species that don't have a forked tail will have at least some individuals that have a point or lobe similar to your armatus. I personally find it to be a desirable trait; my tat is starting to develop it and I'm excited. :)
