Hello,

I just picked up 3 payaras the other week. There in a tank mixed with 8 barracudas and 1 clown knife. Im not to sure why there not eating I only saw one feed since i had them and i cant tell if they ate or not by looking at there bellys. What options do i have...

I need all the info that i can get..

thanks in advance!!!

Agree. Even more so, if they are scombs

We need more info...

What species of payara

Size

What are you using for food.

I assume you know that hydrolycus species are pretty much obligate piscevours and will in nearly all cases eat just live fish. Second Scombs tend to be very shy and will have a VERY hard time competing with a voracious clown knife and quick striking acestros.

I would suggest seperating the payara, raising the temp to 86*F, and leave live feeders in there at all times. Do watch your water params with though. Payara have very fast metabolisims and can waste away rather quickly with out the proper food intake.

first we need to know what species. post pics if u dont know

its a scomb..

So separate the Payaras or the colwn knife and leave them with the barracudas? what would u suggest? also im feeding them live food the temp is always 86F. thanks in advance...

ohi forgot there about 3.5 inches long and the other 2 are about 3" long. Also, the nose is kinds of scractched by the rocks im guessing the knife is always trying to come after them, they end u scrathign there noses on the gravel and stuff. Is there anything u guys can recommend?

thanks again..

keep them solo. they get very nervous w tankmates. keep them comfortable and they will be just fine.
