i tried to do research on payara's via internet, but what i get is always scrabled, fishbase doesnt make scense either....... they say that armatus is the smallest species, im almost sure thats wrong......

my questions are as follows.......

what kind of payara are these?

http://www.aquascapeonline.com/store/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=229

how big do they get?

if i was to get one, should i get more, or just one?

think they'd be okay with the following tankmates?

11" Black Ghost Knife
9" Ornate Bichir
4" African B-fly
6" Red-tailed shark

any special reqirements/sugestions i should know of?

thnx in advance.....

The payaras listed there are the most common - scomberoides. Grow to around 10 inches, somewhat shy and inactive, just hover around, very hard to wean off live food.

Armatus are the biggest, then tatus (redtails) then scombs and vulpinus and cynodon gibbus I think all grow roughly the same size.

the ones listed are scomb, but the 5-6" one in the pic is not scomb. It looks like a redtail varient. If that is a pic of the actual fish, then it'll be more aggressive and less skittish then common scombs. They also get larger and are a lot hardier then scombs.

ya the 5 to 6 in fish, is not one that I have cepet befor, it looks ***. I would not bye......................... That fish is not Authentic. Hydros look like this

agreed with rumble. Definately vulpinus. Redtails get bigger, thicker, and way more aggressive than vulpinus. Sorry bro.
