Hey guys I was recently at my LFS and they had a 8" redtail payara for $70 and I was debating on getting it or not and I decided not to because I am going to be getting a a 5" armatus in about two weeks so I didn't want there to be any problems, but from what I have researched armatus have a rapid growth rate like 2" a month so I was wondering what you guys thought? If I should go back and get it and take the risk or no? Any comments would be great!

Eventually it won't work as the armatus grows bigger. Unless you have a 450 gallon or bigger tank I wouldn't even buy the armatus as you won't be able to house it. They require large tanks and if you don't supply that for them they will eventually stress and either jump or crash into the side of the tank in just a couple years time. You would be better off with a tat if you tank is smaller then a 450.

leave the tat out and savour the armatus. Too big of a risk and hassle to worry about. Where you gonna get the armatus anyways?

Well I had planned on getting the armatus as I have it on hold and then I seen the redtail the other day and wanted it aswell and I wasn't sure if they would get along?

if you were to cohab payara, you should have them in a group of at least 3. 2 payaras will fight for territories. That armatus will eventually dominate that tat and could kill it or injure it. I would solo the armatus with a few bottom dwellers if I were you.

What store if I may ask? Don't worry I already have an armatus.

Ya, I think I'm just gonna stick with the armatus as I don't want to take the chance of any scraps and I really don't want to drive back to missisagua, it was at discount dragon by the way.

If you are putting your armatus in your 135 gallon tank then be prepared for a short life span.

+1

Armatus grows so fast that it will swallow the tat in 4 months or try and swallow him in less time than that. Its tough with a 135 they can spook easy and do a death run. tats grow so slow. Looking forward to your updates!
