Payara

have seen alot of posts about the payara family. alot of lfs calling them sabertusk barracuda, sabertooth barracuda, vampire tetra, and a host of other names. i was confused so i did some research to find out exactly what it was i had. thought i would post pics to help others. the lfs i bought it from called it a sabertusk barracuda, what it is is a red tailed payara or hydrolycus tatauaia. enjoy

he is aggressive towards feeders and that is all. he is just about the sweetest fish ive had. he was with alot of big fish with no problems so he can defend himself if need be but mainly is a very docile fish

Nice fish, I've wanted one for a while, but didnt have the room to keep one by itself. What size tank are they in?

he is in a 55 gallon with some crawdads and a silver dollar hatchet right now, plan on putting some other fish in with him soon. the pics above are in the 120 i have. he didn't do so well in there because of all of the other fish and their size. here are some other pics.
