Can anyone tell me the absolute best tank setup for a school of Payaras all between 4 to 6 inches! Whats the best food for them. Should the tank be heavily planted or have room for swimming! Should i have a powerhead pumping the water or mellow! thanks in advance Woody how did you do it brooooooo?

if it was me id have a bare bottom tank with soem drfitwood, clay pots, and sooem rocks.

a 24/7 drip system

and tons of water movement and aeration with powerhead with standpipes :)

ive heard that these dudes can be weaned onto dead fish and shrimp

cant confirm that though

Just don't really like pots, personally, but to each their own!

Well i have 2 now both 4 inches! They are very cool and i have the tank densely planted! They totally hang in the vines waiting for danios and white clouds to swim by! My huge ghost totallt ingores them all night long. I plan on getting a school of Payara this summer!

wtb more Payara

I'd have lots of water movement and high O2, more as they get bigger. More movement as they get bigger. Pristine water with a high turnover. As far as decorations, I'd have some plants and driftwood while they are smaller, big rocks as they grow. Everything I have read has said that the big ones are often caught in swirling, whitewater pools, so I'd try to mimic that the best that I could.

I could watch those guys eat all day.

So for a school of Payara 3 to 4 inches, should i have the tank heavily planted with a school of feeder danios for them. When do i change the setup to faster moving pumps and more open swimming area, what size do they transfer to the rabids in the amazon! I have three now, the new one has been swimming against the glass, any advice on that!

Hydrolycus scomberoides Though its hard to distinguish between the h.scomberoides and h.armatus. H.scomberoides are said to be the true Payara.

Anybody know how to tell the difference between the 2 Payara!
