I am setting up a new 180 and was wondering what kind of turnover rate would be best for a wet/dry sump. There will be about 4 bass and a fei feng in there. I want to have plenty of filtration and wanted to hear some opinions from the guys that keep pbass.

I think 10x turn over is on the low end so I would shoot for that and more. Just my opinion and what I would want personally.

im still fairly new to the pbass game but i have to agree with high city rida on this one...i myself have all my tanks at 10x or more my 20g feeder fish tank is even getting more with a ac70 hehe

So your saying i need atleast 1800gph? I dont think the overflows on the tank will handle that.:( There drilled dual 1" overflows according to the chart in the diy section they will only do 1200ghp. I guess ill have to figure something else out.

Your running a sump?

Thats what i need to know. Im going with a whole new setup for this tank and needed to know what would be the best gph for a wet/dry sump.

The pump will dictate your turn over rate essentially. There are many different option's and brands that will meet your need's. I have a Little Giant on my 150g with a little under 10x turnover. Google your question about pumps and you will get a plethra of result's. Once you have narrowed it down to your specifics then take in to account the amount of head (total feet before the water returns to the tank) and add that in for an accurate assesment of how much your turnover rate is going to be. Take a look and let us know what you go with.

I would get 2 pumps that put out 1000 GPH each if you can. That way, you have over 10x turnover and if one pump goes out, you still have one running.
