hey guys.. need some help..

what are the advantages and disadvantages of live feeding?

why do we need to train our bass to eat non live foods(such as small fish, shrimps, mussels etc)...

it is okay to feed my peacock bass live foods like goldfish and kois? permanently?

need your comments and suggestions..

thanks a lot:)

Unless you breed the feeders yourself, they can bring all sorts of diseases to your fish and tank life.........Good luck.

I think personanly thats there are huge benifits not as a main diet but to let them hunt .As stated above you must treat them first or you will have all kinds of trouble.....The Chichla are built to hunt there whole body is a preditory machine ....When you drop some live in you can just see a change come over the fish he becomes a hunter and loves it !!!!

In the wild bass get a balanced diet from eating all sorts of fish. Not only do feeders bring disease, they are costly, and do not provide all the nutrients a bass needs. A good rule, use feeders as a treat if you don't want to cut them off completely. However you should provide a balanced diet such as worms, shrimp, pellets, pieces of fish fillet etc. If you feed strictly feeders you are going to have a hard time gettin them to accept other food. I have also experienced some unnecessary aggression when giving feeders.

thanks guys for the reponse..

before my cichlas main diet was feeder goldfish, but after losing 3 of them because of feeders, i started to train them to eat non live like small fishes, shrimps and mussels.

after 3months of feeding them of non live foods i notice that they lose a lot.. they became lean, especially the monoculus.

before they can eat 5-7pcs of feeder goldfish, while in non live they only eat 1-2pcs fish fillet or shrimp. and sometimes they totally dont eat.

can you please help me :(

thanks in advance:)

i think when they see the fish swimming in front of them their predatory instinct comes and they cant help but gorge themselves.

I have found the fresher the cut bait the better. As fo r feeders Hulon hit it right on the head. I mix a little of everything through out the year. Live is best imo... There are more options then food brought feeders. just food for thought. Good Luck!

If you have an endless supply of fresh live feeders, and not goldfish feeders from a LFS, then I'm of the opinion it's the best food you can give your fish. Cichla are fast moving open water predators. This is what they eat in the wild. But if your source of live food is sickly goldfish feeders, don't do it. Get them on non-live foods

The specific diet of my guys Is chopped tilapia every day a few handfuls of hikari gold and massivore mixed together And goldfish because they are cheaper to buy but i buy 400 live a week treat and fatten up then transfer to another tank still treating and fattening but you must have the space and time to do this jose is right i get mine directly and still in the shipping bag they never hit my lfs tanks thats what i request ....If you don't do this and take the time it will show .And my live is fed after everthing else as treats to get them to eat more....
