I was thinking about a gar - why were they a bad tank mate?

with my peacock bass:

in one tank with the big peacock bass i have a 9"+ Marble/RTC hybrid, a 2ft+ silver aro, 1 stupid red oscar, and a 12" common pleco.

in with the medium dudes i have an albino oscar and 2 6" or so common plecos.

with the small orinos i have an 7"+ black ghost knife and a 6" common pleco (stupid shark seems to have vanished into thin air, he was bigger than the pbass, so i don't think he was eaten).

with a 125 i would try some uaru's and dats...eventually you have to remove some of them when they get bigger

:D:D:D Well I picked up my Gar at around 12-14" and I had had my Cichla for a little while.. They were between 3-5". My Gar HATED THEM!! Mainly because they look like food!! He finally stopped trying to eat them at 6" I had a few close calls literally ramming my hand in my tank everyone of them!! Gar with Cichla in mouth and once even had one turned around to be head first !! A couple more seconds and MY Breeder female would not be here!! As we all know that the final step before swallowing with a Gar is head first then CHOMP!.

It was a scary few months debating EVERYDAY if I were going to keep my Gar or not.
