i know this might be a dumb ???, but i am new to this fish game. i want to know how many species are in the peacock bass family??? can someone post up pics of each of them if possible??????? thanks in advance.

oooh, good thread. I believe there are 6 official species, although there are dozens of variants. Cichla temensis, ocellaris, intermedia, orinocensis, monoculus, and pinima are the 6 species.

Very interesting pictorial thread. Which one of these peacock basses grows smallest and what is the minimum tank size to keep the smallest p.bass happy?

a interm...24'' them mono's...24'' TL.......300gal min. tank size.

if i can remember...
temensis, mono, occell, orino, azul, kelberi, pinima, intermedia, fogo and nigro-something are the only ones available to hobbyists as of now.

found this interesting, from that same article:

"Despite the scale of Kullander and Ferreira's study, they believe that this only partially covers what's required for the genus and that numerous other Cichla species exist..."

More Cichla...lol...we'll never catch them all.
