Okay been keeping sa/ca cichlids for awhile now. Been thinking about adding a pbass which i know is a cichlid as well. Just want to know what is a nice pbass to start off with. Someone was telling me a occelaris. Any suggestions?

I'd start with monos or ocellaris..

yep. how big of a tank are you planning on providing it? of curse, if you have a dovii male you've already being planning on a big enough tank for a cichla

got a hand me down 300 from my uncle. been sitting in his garage. alot of people been saying the same thing to start with mono or occel. kind of like the occel better. now are they as aggressive as their fellow cichlids. cause it will be housed with my dovii.

orinos or wild monos.... make sure your water quality is top notch and your temp is 87+ and you should have no problems

how'd you understand what I wrote? lol The reason i agreed with mono and ocel is that they are cheaper and it's usually better to start out on cheaper fish, but you should have enough experience to handle it. I like Orinos better, they're just more money. Don't mess with the real little ones (under 6") if you can avoid it

whats the reason to not mess with the little ones? anything in particular?

they're just more prone to disease and die a lot easier. It's best to keep them on live and not starve them at all until they are 6-8", so it can be quite a commitment even if they accept dead foods w/o starvation.

thanks for the advice

good luck.
basic care is basically the same for most.
just size differences.
high temps and lots of oxygen are key.
i would start with mono or ocell because theyre cheapest and dont get too big for a pbass.
