i changed my substrate this monday and i noticed that my pbass are breathing really hard.. i dont know why this is happening. anyone seen this before? is it because the new substrate?

:nilly: :nilly:

Maybe bc the old substrate had a bacteria colony up and running through it and the new substrate is clean. Therefore the water chem. is alittle different from what they are use to.

I would say possibly the same. I'm not really sure. Do a water test if you're concerned though to check param.'s

You have probably opened up pockets of ammonia from the old substrate. You better do some large water changes quick or you will have a fish kill

This is common more often with small grain substrate like sand but can happen in large grain to. It happens alot with fish that are fed frozen or live meaty foods. Some plecos have died on the spot from stirring up these pockets.
