PBB or Lap, or ???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Toyin, do you have more pics of the fish? Or do you wanna see what we think based on the head shape?

my first thought based on this pic alone would be that it's not Pbb, but i could see how it might be, and since this looks to be a young fish, perhaps it hasn't quite developed the characteristic look. But again based on this pic, i would lean more towards a lap or something else. In fact, it reminds me of a guinea lap or one of those guinea lap variants or some other guinea species. But since you asked if it's a Pbb, i'm assuming it wasn't from Guinea??

Hi.
I feel the same, kind of tricky picture that, but something looks not like any of mine. BUT I don't know what!
Here are some close up profiles of some of my PBB (certificated) for help.

Not PBB, not Nigerian lap. Headshape kinda look like my former sp. Koloton. However I'm not seeing the stripes that runs behind the eye or maybe just not cleary showing up in the pic. Also it kinda have some endli feature on the head.

Got more pics?

I know it got racing stripes on the body but can't clearly see the racing stripes on the head from the reflection. But I'm seeing somekind of circle pattern on the head which can also be found on endlis.

Probably some kind of another lap variant...?

ok so based on the additional pic, it does seem to be some kind of guinea lap variant or some kind of guinea sp. was it imported from Guinea? if not, at least it looks to be some kind of lap variant.

Nigerian or guinea lap i think

Lips as well as the lower jaw seem a little too thick and prominent to be a lap IMO, especially since it doesn't seem to be that big yet. I don't think it's a guinea lap and TG's had different patterns on their pectoral fins. From the pics it looks like the dorsal finlets start a little bit farther back on the body making the head look so much longer. The only thing that I'm not so sure about is the eyes, to me it always seems like PBB's eyes are set higher on their head and are smaller.

Just had a look at all 3 of my PBB heads from above, the distance from the snout to the pectoral fins seem a lot longer on all 3 of mine compared to the pictured fish.

So unless that length is just a individual thing, I am ruling out PBB.

... But I'm only going on mine and am probably wrong!
