Hi All,

Quick question, I recently purchased a very small mono from the LFS (about 4cm)

They told me they had a bout of whitespot shortly after from when they came from the breeder but were since medicated and treated some weeks ago. As these guys are hard to come by in my area I decided to get the largest, healthiest looking one they had.

My question is, will this make mono's more prone to whitespot in the future?

Also, they've been feeding steadily on blackworm and feeder fish, would it be advisable to continue this diet or look to go onto pellets asap?

Thanks for reading, this is my first mono so any help would be appreciated!

Ich will usually come from the feeders or any additional fish. I was treating my feeders with Aquarisol but have gotten my Ps on frozen food. The aquarisol is pretty good just keep the feeder tank at 86 and dose for 4-6 days with aquarisol. It is dirt cheap if you buy it online.

I never went with the pellets. Seems like too much work for a big fish.

my tem got ich from goldfish, so now i always make sure my water is at or just under 30degrees, since then i havent had a problem, with regular water changes and a good diet they shouldnt get whitespot again...
just dont always feed feeders, use them as a treat say once every 2 weeks or sumthing...get them on prawns, from ur supermarket, wrinse thoroughly b4 feeding and u wont have a problem..u'll have healthy cichla...

where in aus u from dude?

Thanks for the help guys! I got 10 small feeders tonight and he's pigged out on them. What's the best way to get them onto a pellet & frozen diet? He's a shy little lad.

What distinguishes if they're a mono, ocell etc when they're juveniles? I believe they are Mono's but the description was "Peacock Bass" at the LFS

I'm from sunny Queensland actually :)
