Peaceful Cichlids

What types of Cichlid are generally a peaceful species and can coexist with other community fish? Possibly loaches?

This is all in a 40 gallon tank.

uhh,gray letters on blue background....you could try,sajicas or keyholes

Pearsei, but they get big. Maybe Severums, they could do well with Loaches... Lyonsi??

You could try Archocentrus multispinosus (rainbow cichlid), angelfish, Laetacara dorsigera, L. curviceps, Bolivian ram. I'd avoid larger species in a 40 gal. - even relatively peaceful species can be aggressive if crowded.

My bad... I didn't see the 40g tank part... you can cross off the three I mentioned. I'm blaming it on the grey letters!!!!

40 is very small, of the kind of cichlids I keep, only adult Cryptoheros nanoluteus is small enough for that size tank.
Although some of the South American dwarfs, such as those from the genus Apistogramma or Microgeophagus would work.
