Setting up a 55 for SA fish and would rather have peaceful species. It has a large piece of driftwood and a rock cave. Substrate is white sand with scattered large pebbles. There will be no plants in this tank, I have too many planted tanks now, plus I have fish that would eat plants. So far I have 5 Geophagus surinamensis and 4 Silver Dollers. Would like a few more SA peaceful cichlids and a pleco or ansistrus and perhaps another non-suckermouth cat of some sort. This tank may be too small for the Geophagus at adulthood but other tanks are available. Now they are only about 2.5 inches and the Silver Dollars are about, well the size of a silver dollar, lol. I don't like to overcrowd my tanks, but at this stage it seems rather empty.

Thought about Festivums, Rams, and maybe a few tetras. Thoughts?

I really like the Geophagus and related genera and wonder which of the other species are peaceful and relatively small, they are all beautiful fish.

Festivums. That is all .... Ok festivums, black neons, columbian tetras, a pair of laetecara curviceps, and a bristlenose pleco... That is all.

Festivum would be a good addition. As they remain near the surface while your geos are taking up the entire bottom layer. Rams are bottom dwellers as well and would overcrowd the bottom even at the current size of the geos. Festivum do require groups of 4 or more, so they will take up all of the top layer. Not much room for tetras once they reach 4" each. Males can reach 8" and females can reach 6". Up until 4", you could house a small school of deep bodied tetras.
