hey everyone my silver aro has always been super layed back and never chased any tankmates. well I just got a 15" royal clown knife and everything was fine for about a week and now all of a sudden my silver aro attacks him every time the knife comes out of hiding. He never chased any other knives I had. Is it because this one is so much bigger? Will this pass eventually or do I have a real problem here? any help or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

i agree once they start like that they will keep doing it as it must see the knife as a threat
looks like you may have to seperate

well not the answer I was hoping for. I moved some driftwood around to block the back entrance to his hiding spot and the aro can't get to him now. At night he leaves him alone so feeding is not a problem I just feed close to lights out. Separation would mean getting rid of one or the other and thats not an option I wish to consider yet. I don't have another aquarium big enough to house either one. thanks for the help though hopfully I can get it worked out.

once they feel another fish is a threat they will stand up for themselves. i had a large silver around 2feet with a large red devil, and when the devil would charge him, the silver would bite right back and stand up to him.

this is a pretty good match up. I mean the 15" knife might seem like a smaller weaker fish to a larger aro but i have seen knives be down right terrors. Killing tankmates there own size and larger. So the knife might turn the tables possibly right? it can out swim the aro hands down and no real damage has been done but it is very disturbing. and my clown has become a recluse when the lights are on and that sucks.

temp is in the 80's. what will this do? just curious I will try it though

Theres been a couple of article and stories linking fish aggression with high temps.
Just play with your heater and lower it up a notch or two.. bring it down to the high 70s.. Just try it, it might even work !
