Peackock cichlid spitting food.

I have noticed my ob zebra and hongi/lab hybrid doing the same thing but they tend to eat the spit up food. I would watch to see if they are doing that as well. Also what type of food are you feeding

I had the same problem with my Jack. He was eating live gudgeons for weeks, then I started feeding him live worms and now it seems like the feeders disgust him, he'll take them in and spit them back out with a look of disgust shaking his head. But he will eat frozen prawn, heart, cichlid pellet and live worms without a problem. If hes really hungry he wil eat one of the feeders but he will spit it out and take it back in 10-20 times before he actually swallows it. I think its a matter of them just wanting more of a variety. If you get fed silverside for weeks and weeks, at some point, you are going to get sick of it. Maybe try change up their diet.

They could have parasites or maybe the food is too large. Try skipping a day then feed lightly and see what happens.

My new Yellow Lab and some other one don't know the name off the top of my head have been doing that but they eat it after they spit it back out. One of them has also been taking rocks out from underneath the live rocks I have set up for caves and dug himself a spot underneath it by spitting pebbles out really cool to watch. Also on another note I can't wait to get my Peacocks on Wednesday when my local pet store gets them in, love the colors on them and fins.

My peacocks did that with omega one... Until I switched to nls:D

most of the time this is caused by internal parasites.
over time i will kill your fish slowly. concave tummy will appear on your fish. by the time it might be too late to cure it.
there are some effective medication. "ocean free" anti-internal parasites is the one i used. it takes 4-6 days to cure.

I think your thinking of malawi bloat, your fish would have a giant belly, flake food I'm not too sure why they'd spit it, maybe want variety but if you feed them pellets then make sure they're not too big or try soaking them in water first, I soak nls in a little tea spoon so it will sink and so it won't bloat up in their intestines since I have a tank full of juvies.
