All about the U
Is there something I can be doing that will make their colors more vibrant? DO the colors just come later when the get bigger and older? Are there certain types of food that promote good health and color? I feed them all live (havent got them off feeders yet). I just dont think rosy reds are giving them enough nutrition. They sure do love danios though:naughty:

I've found the best ways to bring out the colors are the substrate and lighting. All my guys are off live so I don't have any input on diet, but coloration also varies with each fish and species.

For the most part it's a little of everything. You can keep them on Live as long as you want, but you should gut load the feeders before fed to the CIchla. Dark substrate, cover, help them bring out there colors more. Krill, Hikari food sticks, Shrimp, Cyclopeeze infused food...all good. For the most part, give them time. They improve with age.

thanks for the input. they are still young but i have seen some smaller cichla with vibrant colors and was just wondering if i had done something wrong

Lighting helps A LOT. 6500 and 10,000k
