So I have a 45g tank (36"x13"x23") how many peacocks and haps could I put in there to grow out before putting them in the 75g gallon I plan on getting in the coming months. Also how much time works I have before the tank is too crowded?

after 10 years of fish keeping, trust me, dont get fish to grow out and plan on getting them a bigger tank later, plans may/could fall through and you will have an overstocked tank... just get the tank first then fish..

It all depends on the size of the fish you are putting in it.

If they are all juvies, I would put about 15-20 in it ONLY if you stay on top of your WC and maintenance.

If they are bigger then I would only put in half that amount.

You can put a lot of fry or juvenile fish in a 45 gallon tank. I have raised A LOT of fry to 2" in 20Ls and 20Hs.

The problem is its a lot of work.

All that said, it doesn't sound like you're doing this to raise fry. I'd definitely have the 75 gallon locked on and ready to go before starting this project.
