Peacock bass and snappers?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No but I've heard horror stories about snappers destroying any and all tankmates after they reach a certain size, and I've heard rumors of them being one of the most aggressive fish you can keep in fw.

I wouldn't do it unless you want a bunch of mauled cichla. Snappers teeth do too much damage even a little nip will leave a wound

I used to catch a ton of mangroves in Tampa. I've been catching juvies here in Louisiana mixed in with bass and redfish. I noticed their distribution takes them into Amazon as well.

We have plenty of snappers here. Lutjanus jocu, Lutjanus cyanopterus, Lutjanus purpureus, Ocyurus chrysurus, Lutjanus synagris, Lutjanus analis.

I've been told of Lutjanus cyanopterus being caught in the same place that Cichla we're being caught, also snooks and small tarpons.

From what I heard about one of our Snappers, the Mangrove Jack; Lutjanus argentimaculatus, they are super aggressive and should be kept as solitary fish in most standard sized aquariums.

I've got a mangrove jack in my 700gal pond with barramundi, jungle perch and snakehead gudgeon. Just got a small pbass which I'll put in when he gets big enough. The mj gets along fine with the others but having said that he was the smallest fish and last introduced to the pond and there is plenty of structure and hiding places.
