I don't think it will work.

Why not?? Just wondering your opinion!!!:)

it's most likely been done before, butti's are known to be bastards to smaller fish but do to the size of adult pbass it could work. but it still depends on the individual fish and their aggresion tendencies, if both fish are juvi's i wouldn't put my money on ethier for survival.

dont think it would work ...pbass would have to have size on the butter ... it would be a battle royaaal

it's possible, however i dun think i'd risk it...not unless the cichla are much larger than the butti...if u put 1 butti to 3-6 cichla i'm sure it would be ok n possibley work..very tough question...lol

lol 1 butter to 3-6 cichla... more like eventually dinner. the 3-6 cichla will constantly be competing for food with one another and the the butter will be competing with 6 cichla. expect lots of torn fins. the butter will never get to eat, or will eat alot less and grow alot slower

i know it nice to have a mixed tank with diff species of fish but when people ask me what the best tankmates for cichla are i always say cichla... its easier this way. there will be less problems down the road.

i would like to try a pike cichlids but dont know if i will since that fish may never have the girth it needs to live with cichla for life.

as for tankmates.. any tankmate is possible (nothing is impossible , just some things arent smart) but most of the time it just wont work out unless they are fast growers and aggressive and dont forget could never fit in there mouth even when full grown... so you just have to use your best judgement....

the other problem is when the cichla are small will that tankmate cause them stress?

i forgot to add that tank size and setup (structure) also pays an important role
