sorry had my post up in a different section. i'm thinking about grabbing a peacock bass for my 55g growout tank. it alredy has a few datnoids, bichirs, pleco, and some leopard ctenopenas. would the peacock coexist with them? I also read somewhere that they're capable of busting threw aquairium glass, to go with jumping out of the the tank. any info would be awesome. thanks guys!

Well I'll be completely honest with u, you don't deserve a peacock bass no offence. Bro a fifty five gallon aquarium is way to small you should get a bigger tank. Something around 6-7 foo. But they will eventually outgrow the tank anyway.peacock bass require a lot of care.partial water changes are essential. Any small companion in the tank will be eaten so u should get big tank mates and carni pellets or something high in proTein is recommended. No GOLDFISH

So you want a pbass along with your datnoids in a 55g? Do we need to answer this? If you think this is ok, maybe you should rethink being in this hobby with your monster fish keeping fifty fice gallon tank.

To the stoning crowd: What's up with you guys going right for the throat?? Go be asses in another forum and give this person a chance to answer some things and be asked things.

To the OP: They will get along with all the fish stated, other than I don't know what the leopard thing is? You will need another tank shortly of much larger size, minimum for most smaller Pbass sp is a 36"x98" footprint for full size adults. And I've never had or heard of them braking tanks.

I think you will be fine as long as there is not a lot of size differences with your fish. I think your leopard Ctenopoma will do fine as well. Pbass are actually very delicate fish until they hit 7". They prefer clean water so a good filtration system is a must. Kelberi is the smallest species of bass and mono is the lowest proce bass. those are some starters i would recommend. Just shoot if you have any questions.

55g is fine for a grow out. But you will obviously need to upgrade in the future.

He did say grow out, so let him have his say. If you have juvies for both, pbass and dats, keep in mind that pbass growth rates far exceed dats, though dats are much higher bodied, and ctenopomas can live their entire lives in a 55.

As far as pbass swimming power, take a look at the tailfin on any fish, along with the thickness of the tail it's attached to, and you'll get an idea of acceleration. Pbass have a massive paddle hooked up to some serious muscle, which equals water in your living room.
