??? They go through various cover phases depending on what stage of their life they are in, what do you mean they're color? I take it you mean the color they sit at longest during their adult life, and that is dependent on species. For example, kelberi and Temensis are very different.

No problem, I personally really like most stages of my peacocks, didn't like one on my orino and one on my xingu, but liked pretty much every other on all the bass i had. Sometimes didn't want them to change. Some azuls look kinds ugly when they're young imo. Anyway, for a mono or hybrid ocel I'd say when it hits7-9 inches. A year and a bit. Maybe even less, idk only kept 3 or 4 mono or ocel hybrids, that was early on in my fish keeping so hard to remember exactly. Enjoy em man.

I've never grown out a hybrid long enough to see it color up, but what I've seen in pictures it seems they tend to take a while to do so. I had a 10 inch one didn't have much color at all. I've seen pictures of hybrids maybe 14 inch plus range with nice coloration. On the the other hand, the Kelberi's I have now had nice color from about 5 inches. Also your water quality and feeding make a difference too. My kelberi's color improved drastically with Massivore.

As Sabmakj said it's a hybrid, usually they color up after 12". Some stay dull their whole life. Attached is a old pic of one of my mutts ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1407519649.997977.jpg
