I have a 1000g predator community and two of my mature bass have decided to start spawning regularly , a few months ago . The male is a 15" 24k spider kelberi and the female is an 18" ocellaris.

The first batch of approximately 500 eggs went underutilised and didn't hatch out ( November)

Second batch hatched out but I didn't have any live food and they perished due to my inexperience , around 500 eggs again( early december)

Third and current batch I have managed to keep alive and they have been free swimming for a few days now. I have around 50 young . Around 1000 eggs ( late december)

My observations and methods:

The parents will clear an area on the tank floor and start protecting the area a week or so before laying. During this time they are still eating.

Following a large waterchange that is slightly cooler normally triggers the spawn. They stop eating at this point

The next day I pull as many eggs as I can and put them into a tank treated with meth blue.

As the eggs start to hatch i prepare the BBS live food , which should be ready just when they are free swimming. At this point I put them on a drip from the main tank while pulling out any dead eggs daily.

Past keeping them alive for a couple of weeks I have no experience in raising fry so any input or tips would be greatly appreciated. I will keep the thread updated as I continue to try keep the batches of fry aliveScreenshot_20260115_095132_Editor Lite.jpgScreenshot_20260115_094446_Editor Lite.jpg
