How can u tell the difference between a Cichla monoculus & a Cichla ocellaris? They look so similar from the photos.....Thanks

Yours look like Ocellaris to me.

There are keys to each species:

Cichla monoculus: Short dorsal bars that do not go below the lateral line and a long dark bar underneath the pectoral fin. No ocellum at the base of the second dorsal and no markings on the cheek.

Cichla ocellaris: Faint bars and a round mark underneath the pectoral. Look for distinct ocellum underneath the second dorsal and no black marks on the operculum.
