im trying to convert my 3 mono's to pellets from frozen shrimp, bloodworms, etc. Im using a combination of hikaki gold and massivore, its been about a week now and they arent going for the pellets. Any idea how long i should keep this starving for?

Read the sticky above on converting from live foods. It worked for me. Simply starving your Pbass does no good unless they know what you are offering them is food. They need to associate the pellets as food, through conditioning. Or you can try teacher fish. Which is a fish that already accepts pellets. Pbass are very competitive feeders they will pic up on whats going on and eat that way too.

And some fish are just too stubborn for their own good. They will starve themselves to death if what youre putting in doesnt trigger to them as a food source. These fish are glutonous. They will eat shrimp till they wont take another bite and look like blimps, but drop in live and its as if they havent eaten in a week, even stuffed full of shrimp. 3 dozen rosies vanish. Ive got one that refuses all but live so I heavy feed the other 3 hoping to curb their appetite so he can get a good run at a batch of live. Nope. Even stuffed full of prep food they will devour just as many rosies as they would if they were hungry. So if they arent hitting a food source, its simply because they dont see it as a food source.

Every time you feed shrimp drop in a couple of hikari gold pellets between dropping in the shrimp. You will find that they should start trying it as it hits the surface and them spitting it out.
Be persistent and when they are regularly tasting and spitting the pellets stop feeding shrimp for about a week and feed only pellets.
If they don't eat them in a week go back to feeding them shrimp for a bit.
Don't give up it took me a while to get my tem on pellets but now he loves them.
Good luck!

Also it helps to have something in the tank that eats pellets too.

it really helps...i use to have silverdollars that ate pellets...but i started off getting them to hit fd krill on the top water then would mix in food sticks and pretty soon they didn't like the fd krill and ate only food sticks!!!

:iagree: having an oscar as a "teacher" fish in there helped with the pellet training for me..

im still converting my bass right now, feeding them silversides with pellets inside them. then i would cut silverside in small pieces and mix the pellets then feed them like that. it takes time but hope this will work out for you...good luck.
