I recently got a datnoid, and finding alot of you with Dats have peacock bass. I started researching pbs on wiki cause I really like them, but theres a little too much info and too many different kinds. Hoped you might be able to answer a couple q's for me.
I have a 5" dat and 15" gar in staight freshwater 120g, which species would you recomend for my setup? Also, I never see them at my local stores,so didn't know what price range they are in, anyone know a ballpark range?

id say for you ocell or mono about 5 ".. but that gar would worry me... 5" mono or ocell probably around 40$

Yeah, my gars size has been a big problem when it comes to selecting fish. I know 5" works good for a Datnoid now, but I think I'd feel more comfortable with an 8" or so with the pbs more slender body shape, but I'm sure its 10x harder to find one that size.. My dat seems to do good with my gar, cause he doesn't take any s*** from him, like he charges at the gar if being to pesky. Do the bass tend to hold there ground pretty well as far as aggression?

Looking through the galleries, both the monos and orinos look nice. Is there a certain one that gets bigger? And are these bass pretty wild in a tank?
I know the bass here in Wisconsin (largemooth, smallmouth) are prone to taking the glass top off your tank when trying to jump out, and see the peacock tend to be a gamefish as well.

well...pbass are firstly not good with gar.
any cichlid or aggressive eater is not good with gar.
secondly,a pbass will EASILY outgrow a dat.

monos 24inches and orinos grow slow but their also one of the more agressive type of bass..

:iagree: yeh dats grow HEAAAPSS slow.. i dont think your dat will keep up with any cichla..

My Gar drug my mono's around til they were 6" The gar was 12" And not 6" small... Six and Deep bodied ;)

I do really like the pbass, but maybe I'll wait for a different tank, or see what happens with my current bigger one. I would be a little nervous putting the pbass with the gar, he might bite them, or pbass may not leave him alone. Thanks for your input.
