Hey guys...I'm very excited because today I brought home my first 2 peacock bass. I'll post pictures Sunday evening but have some questions in the meantime.

1. Will they eat my loaches? Bass are about 5 inches long and my loaches are about 3 inches. (I traded all my Africans for 2 Peacock Bass but kept the following: 3 loaches, 1 common pleco, 1 white dot pleco and 1 green phantom pleco)

2. Will they eat frozen shrimp, blood worms, shrimp pellets, and Dainachi pellet Color FX? (If not what is the best food source?)

3. How soon will they grow out of the 75 gallon?

So, my setup is 75 gallons, sand bottom, river rock pile in center of the tank and provides cover for all the plecos and loaches. On the left side of the tank when facing it I have a long green vine that is very full which travels up the side of the tank and floats across the top. The P Bass seem to love taking cover there. Water temp. is about 78 - 79 degrees with 2 Emporer 400 back filters.

Any advise would be great, and I'm beginning to look at the sticky's now.

Thanks,
JP

1. Your fine they should go about well for a while but not too long. btw what type of loach?

2. Most peacock bass will eat live feeders and bloodworms at first sight you should try that if they do eat that and you dont want them too try to convert them on to a better source of food like pellets or shrimp but it is not a easy task. there is a very usefull sticky here that will tell you all about that if you would like to attempt it.

3. deapens on how fast you feed them and what you feed them if you are looking for sheer speed live is fastest but not safest if your looking for a slower and safer road try krill, bloodworms, pellets. water changes also play a big roll on growth speed.

your tank seems fine to me just check your parameters more offten and clean it more then you would before make sure you raise your water temp to 86-88. congratz on your new friends and welcome into the cichla fever if your not in it already =p

Sounds about right.

higher temp. between 87-90 best.
they will take feeders first usually.
feed them that until 8 inches then wean them off.
if they take dead food without starving right now, then better.
but still give them feeders.
depends what loaches.
but they will definitely outgrow and eat the loaches if they dont eat them now.
what are the dimensions of the 75g?

Thanks for all then advice. So my loaches are clown loaches and very brave. One thing I noticed was that as soon as the PBass were in the tank they didn't stay hidden and don't seem afraid in the least bit. With my Africans my loaches would stay hidden until feeding time.

My 75 gallon is 48 X22 X18...I'll be home tomorrow night and can't wait to see how they are doing.

Thanks,

Thanks,

youve got about a year if they are mono/ocell.

thanks, so let's say all goes well and i upgrade my tank...what size is suitable at that point? I typically keep my fish for 2 - 3 years, my Africans I had for about 3 years.

a 6x3x3 can house mono/ocells for life.
might as well get that...
