For one cichla monoculus if it was the only fish in a 125 would it be ok for life? If not, what size tank would i need and how soon would i have to upgrade if i got it at about 2.5 inches?

125 wont hold them for life i think you need 200g or more to house them..

but no, a 125 isnt big enough. they get 24+ inches.

You should be ok for 1 yr - 1 1/2 yrs. They slow down quite a bit when they hit the 12" mark.

125 is plenty, unless your planning to get Tems, look at my Avatar, he was 2.5 inches when i got him in Aug 2010, and now he's about 11.5 inches.
