I have a baby peacock bass with health issues, but this one I've never seen before. He has this silver oval on his back just below the first dorsal fin. Currently he's in my 29 gallon QT tank (dont worry as soon as he's healthy he is moving to my 90 growout and eventually my 220). He refuses to eat anything but rosies right now, hopefully he'll accept bloodworms or pellets soon, but I'm afraid to starve him until he eats accepts other stuff until he's healthy. His appetite is enormous and he shows no signs of lethargy, surface gasping rubbing or darting. In other words, except for the silver spot I'd assume he's healthy.

I've had him a month and he's been sick the whole time. He came with Ich, I treated that with salt and heat, cleared up easy enough. Then he got fin rot, that took longer, hydrogen peroxide and melafix, he's still recovering from it. Now he's got this spot, which I've never seen in 20 years in the hobby! So if anyone could help me identify it that would be awesome. Also if anyone knows the exact species of peacock bass this even is I'd appreciate the info.

Water parameters (Hagen master)
Temp 85
Ammonia 0
Nitrate <5mg/L
Nitrite < .1mg/L
KH 80
PH 8.2
Spec grav 1.002

Water changes 30% every other day. Filtration is a tidal 110, running just mechanical at the moment. He has a royal pleco I bought at the same time and a clown pleco that just lives in there. The plecos have never been sick.

It's some kind of infection, bacterial maybe.Hopefully someone else who can help will chime in soon.

Would suggest reducing the temp down to 78-80. Add salt to the tank 1 tsp per g. If it starts to get larger or worse in the next 24-48hrs then I’d suggest kanamycin and furan2.

Poor guy has been through a lot.
If the ich is gone I would back down the temp to about 79 or 80

Get some Vitachem and gut load a drop or 2 in the minnows
Gotta get vitamins into the fish. Needs better food
Start slowly as sometimes they are put off by the taste

Thanks for the ideas guys. No changes better or worse since yesterday with the spot. Bringing the temp slowly back to 78 still and increased the salt a bit. I have doxy on hand so if no one can think of a reason not to try that, before running out and buying kana or Furan, I'll try it tomorrow and see if it improves any.

I do vitamin load his minnows. I just hope he goes to pellets or at least frozen as easily as my piranhas did. He's grown a ton since I got him in spite of being sick, he seems to be a hardy little fish actually.

It looks like the scales are kind of rubbed and been damaged. When i bought some baby kels a year ago on of them was floating upside down after the transport so i grabbed it and pulled ot forward and backwards through the tank water. And after my fingers it got something similar to this.

Whats you cichlas tankmates? Can it have been pressing itself behind some intakepipe from a filter or something like that?

I initially thought it could be a heater burn but that would be an odd spot for that to be.
