Bought a 3" PB over a week ago now and I still havent seen him eat! He was in a display tank with another 5 bass and I seen him eat a number of times when the lfs fed them live feeders.

Since being in my tank I have tried feeding him pellets? Brim shrimp and beef heart and nothing.

Any suggestions on how to get him to eat?

whats he in the tank with? how big is the tank?

your going to have to break him off feeders. first give him live. after few weeks do dead.(worked for most of my bass). then i did tilaplia filets. then starve again. monkey see monkey do. got em on pellets

Thanks for your advice. I have him in a 150 gallon with a 3/4" dovii, 2" wild type oscar, 3" tinfoil barb and a 2" red terror. I had just the barb and bass in the tank for a week at first and have only put the rest in yesterday. All the other fish are eating already except the bass.

This is my 4th time trying to raise a bass, with my experience they are the ****test fish to raise

probably didnt help putting a dovii and red terror in with it, theyre pretty agressive and would not help him come out and eat haha

The red terror is the smallest in the tank and half the bass size. I need to put the terror in hes own tank before the bass and dovii think its a feeder. The dovii just keeps to himself. Its not the fact that the bass is stressed or hiding i always see him out about swimming freely. He just wont eat anything i put in the tank. Like I see food hit hes face and nothing!

Oh okay well that might change when that dovii and red terror get some size haha but in the mean time just try different foods like I find fish that won't eat will still LOVE bloodworms so just try some different stuff out or you could just not give them anything for like a week then only put pellets so that they don't have a choice that also works

Will do thanks for the advice. I know the bass doesnt require the same aggression as most cichlids.Think ill put it up for sale or trade it in. I only got it because i traded in some old fish of mine and wanted to restock my tank so i traded in for the best American cichlids that the lfs had. I swore to myself never again will i get another bass after the last one died and due to their fragile nature. They are such an effort to raise.

i never heard bass being fragile lol but try feeding live/frozen bloodworms until they put some size and weight on fish love that stuff
after it puts some size and weight on you can start weening them off the worms and start feeding pellets or try to feed pellets soaked
in some garlic guard as it will entice the fish to eat the pellets.

By Fragile I mean their skittish, scared and easliy stressed. Just notice the oscar which is half the bass size have a go at it and chases it away when it gets to close to him lol whenever i walk into the lfs you always see them hudled uo scared in a corner.

Will get some blood worms tomorrow and see how he goes
