Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum and have recently purchased a tiger oscar juvenille and a peacock bass (not sure what kind).

How would I identify the type of peacock, as the store I purchased it from called it a Lukinini.

Secondly, I see pictures of some Peacock bass with extremely bright yellow coloration and blue fins, is this species specific or diet?

Thank you and pleasure meeting yall -

Thank you guys! Will post some pictures today after work!

He is around 3-4 inches - picked him up yesterday! The store here in NYC was trying to sell him for $40.00... got them down to $25.00 - was this a rip off?

Im gonna take a wild guess and say ocellaris but that only because they are common and sold at lfs all over in nj and nyc.not a rip off at all in any way for any pbass.pics will be identified within minutes after you post em I am sure.at 4" it may be a positive id but still may be a little hard.how big is your tank?

May be a bit small for a 100% id. Most pbass look very very similar when small. Although you could get some ideas here, then ask again in a few months when it's a bit bigger. Ya never know when that ocell id turns into a kelberi! (yeah right:ROFL:)

Hey Guys - thanks for your opinions.

I currently have a 10 gallon (yes, I know this is very small) - as my Oscar is 3 inches and the PBass is around 4 inches, I think this will be okay in the interim?

I am moving out of my apartment in 3 months and am moving into my own place (hopefully the real estate market in NYC continues to get cheaper) - in which point in time, I will be upgrading to a large setup (thinking 75 gallons - will be asking for all your guys' expertise as well when shopping).

Some guy on this Forum (DMACK?) has extremely pretty PBass - what type are these? I hope mine turn out like this!

The 10 gal is pushing it for the oscar alone right now. If you're feeding it right, the oscar will outgrow that tank before you move out of your apartment. As for the 75g, that will be sufficient for the adult oscar. Too small for both fish. I don't do pbass, but I don't even think the 75 is good for him alone at adult size. JohnPTC has some pbass over 30".
