I know this is something that has been spoken about a million times, but can someone give me a straight answer…
Can I keep my mono bass in my 8x2x2. He’s about 18 inch now. He’s my favourite fish ever. I know they get massive. And if for one second I thought he was uncomfortable I will move him on. But has anybody on here got peacock bass in the same size tank and can I keep him….?

Only you can decide that one really

Personally I wouldnt keep an 18" active fish in a 2ft wide tank. My biggest bass is 17" and hes a unit but the tank is 3ft wide

Up to you

Can you? Of course, you can; there won't be police kicking in your door with guns drawn if you keep a fish that size in a tank that size.

Should you? Totally different question. It sounds as though he's already in there, so you really want somebody to validate that decision by telling you that it's perfectly fine for him...but since you are asking the question the implication is that you don't really think the tank is adequate.

I'm with Simonas Simonas on this: I would never keep an active fish that size...and who still has more growing to do!... in such a small/narrow tank. Someone will post momentarily that it'll be perfectly fine...but that won't be me.

No such thing as a straight answer to a subjective question.

He can move around fine. I’m just going from what I’ve read. Like I said, if at any point I notice him being uncomfortable or unhappy I will move him on. He’s my lovely big boy.
