I have a 90 gallon tank with (all small) 2 frontosa
1pictis cat
1 senegal bichir
1geophagus
1pinktail chalceus
1 orange leleupi cichlid
1 mystery cat
1 white spot pike
3 brichardi cichlids
1pleco
1roseline shark
1peacock cichlid
My peacock recently had more vibrant colars and was shyer than her usually active self. I was cleaning the tank and my brother commented on her full mouth. I looked and decided to check what was up. I netted her out and opened her mouth just enough to see it full of yellow eggs!!! I had no other peacock but I heard they were very easy to cross and was wondering what you guys thought? I put the peacock in a 29 gal. with a bn pleco, a eel, and a bumble bee cat. I didn't want to strip her due to the bottom feeders eating the eggs. I will go strip her and put the eggs in a small quartine cage that goes in the tank. I'm kinda wondering what happened? My guess is that it was the orange leleupi but I want to get your tank on who it was and what I should do? Sorry for the sloppy sent. but I'm kinda in a hurry. Thanks

I think only time will tell...when and if those babies grow up you'll be able to see for sure if they're hybrid or not. As far as who she bred with, who knows...your guess is as good as mine

I got the eggs in a spare ten gal. with the ninty gallons water in it, I have a bubbler over them and I am putting hydrogyen peroxide in to keep fungus away. Any other advice is welcome

I've never heard of Aulonocara crossing with any tanganyikans. I can't imagine her crossing with a leleupi. She may have pretended to spawn with someone and be carrying unfertilized eggs. I know in a colony without a male present, the females will spawn with each other and hold the eggs.

:confused:Do you know if there is a way to tell if the eggs are unfertilized or fertilized? If not I guess I will just have to wait and watch:popcorn:

P.S. way to take all the fun out of it!! lol

Isn't the geo SA though, and the peacock is a malawki (or however you spell it). I couldn't imagine that but I suppose that your guess is as good as mine. The eggs seem to be a brownish colar.
