I have a 6" temensis and just threw a 2 1/2" pleco in with it along with feeders. The tem is a finicky eater and eats a couple feeders right away and then finishes them over night. Right now it has a full belly so I guess what I'm getting at is: does the pleco stand any sort of chance when the bass is hungry again or do they tend to not want to eat them because they are so bony? The bas will eat feeders roughly the size of the pleco but very reluctantly and seems to prefer the smaller feeders. I'm curious if this is something that works on a case by case basis or if it is inevitable that the pleco will be eaten. Any info wil be appreciated

I've never seen any of my p bass mess with any plecos, they just seem to leave them alone. I'm referring to way back then when my p bass were about double the size of the plecos. Just make sure you have a hiding place for the pleco.

my tememsis ate my gibbicep....tem was 6" gibby was 2" u just godda be careful provide plenty of space for ur plec to hide...and feed it regulary so it gets sum size to it..

cichla will will eat anything that fits in there mouths.. and if they are hungry that is including plecos... i have seen it before... best tankmate for a cichla is another cichla.. i personally like pikes too ;)

yes they will eat plecos.
my friend's mono choked on a pleco and died.
give the pleco lotsa hiding spots.

thanks for the help. I omitted the fact that it is a gold nugget pleco so I wouldn't seem like as much of a dumbass if my tem ate it. So far so good. The bass seems to leave it alone, it's the barramundi that worries me. Luckily the pleco lives on the side of the tank where the bass won't allow the barra. Anyone have any tips on growing gold nuggets? It practically doubled in size in the first couple weeks from eating the brown moss that was covering the driftwood, but now it's all gone and it doesn't seem to be eating algea wafers or cucumber.

It is best to find another fish to keep with your cichla;)

my peacock bass have never bothered a pleco.. and i have LOTS of plecos..

if you're very worried about your gold nugget pleco in with your peacock bass, i'll be more than happy to give him a good home with smaller fish.. hehehe
