Hey there, so i was just wondering whether a peacock eel or a zig zag eel (or another eel of that size) would do well in a 29 gallon tank?

Cheers, Stefan

yes a peacock eel or a zig zag eel would be fine.

thanks for the quick reply. Me and my roommate got a fire eel (somewhat ignorantly) and put him in the 29 gallon. He is still small yet so there arent any issues but upon further research, we determined that it would get way too large, way too quickly, and we dont have the capital to upgrade to a larger tank. Therefore, the zig zag or the peacock would be a great switch.

peacocks imo are more outgoing.. but zig zags can be kept in groups.... but either would be content in a 29 with plenty fo hide spots and few if any tankmates.

There is a peacock I am thinking about picking up at my LFS. we'll see though.

i think peacocks do better in groups. I have a very densely planted, sandy bottomed tank with about 3 different caves, with one eel i occasionally saw his head, with two they both come out at night and play around, i now have a small fire eel (smaller than the peacocks) and now none of them ever burrow. i was worried about adding eels but they seem to love eachother. the peacocks pop out of the sand right next to eachother and the fire eel lurks around pretty close, he never burrows

Huh. My fire eel absolutely loves his borrows. I am moving him to a 55 grow out in the next few months so I may add some peacocks in with him just to see if it would work out. I love spiney eels :)
