Hi guys, I am new at this. I have a peacock eel had him since 3/2015.He was always active and eating happily. However, for the past 3 weeks he has been in his favorite spot (under the sand) , he will not even come out to eat. He shares the tank with 2 gouramis, a panda cory, a rainbow shark, a bumblebee catfish, 4 coolie loaches and a albino algae eater. My water quality is good as is the temp. Is this normal for them to go into hiding for weeks. I have done my "home work" on my fishes long before I purchase. All seems normal so what is the problem, I am very concerned as it is my favorite fish in my tank. Thanks ANYONE,,,, Help!

well i had mine for a year and he hid under my gravel all the time actually better that you have sand, which is good for preventing wounds, also it is normal for them to do this and this is the reason why many people have the substrate of sand for eels, If he's not eating maybe you might be feeding him during the day, i would drop food near his spot right before you go to bed so its dark in the tank, He will see fine, I do this with my tire track and he hasnt eaten in front of me once but considering ive had him for a year is that he is eating, check for any signs of stress or see if he is skinny or getting skinnier.

Hey thanks for the reply bro. I will be monitoring him just to be on the safe side. I hand feed him as he was always out even during the day. I will be picking up some black worms (his favorite) this week coming up and feed him since his head is always peeking out. I will be happy with him eating at least four or five of them. I really don't know what happened its like a happy switch was turned off. But I will keep you posted and updated on his status. Thanks again.
