I just asked about a similar species, zigzag eels, and I also like peacock eels (Macrognathus siamensis) and would like to know about the following:

1.) How big do the adults get? I've read online 12" is that congruent with your personal experience?
2.) Do you think adult peacock eels would eat black khuli loaches? If they really get to 12", I'm concerned that squigly little 3" black khuli loaches might look like delicious earthworms, what do you think?
3.) Do they like the company of their own kind?
4.) If they get territorial with each other how many could be comfortably kept in a 55 or 75 gallon, I'm wanting to setup a heavily planted tank so they'd have plenty of decor to break their line of site and give them places to hide.

1) yes 12” is topside, not had one reach quite that.
2) yes
3)&4) yes, again like the other two types you questioned they are quite sociable and 5 in a 75 well planted with plenty of hideouts should be fine IMO. You will often find them hiding together
