Good evening,

I have one peacock eel and one striped peacock eel in a 10 gallon QT tank right now. We have been struggling to get a parasite issue (we think) under control. I just looked at Snuffers (largest of the two) and she appears to have thin white threads hanging from her face and gills. Her counterpart, Sniffler, has a weird yellow brown spot on his belly that has appeared in the last week. They both have exhibited quick heavy breathing almost like hyperventilating. Over the past two weeks we have done two rounds of General Cure in their 29 gallon tank and as the round of meds comes to an end they seem to be better, however, within the next day or two, the heavy breathing returns. As I said, I just moved them into the QT tank today so we can do a complete scrub of the 29, I treated the water with NovAqua to condition it, and then added Prazipro to try and combat the parasites. We'll see how this goes, but I would love any suggestions or input as I'm leaving for vacation next Tuesday and would like to have at least of plan of action that I can leave instructions about what to do for my brother who will be caring for the little guy and gal. I apprecaiate any feedback. Have a wonderful day.

:welcome: to MFK, Nate!

Prazipro is what I was going to suggest as the med here. Actually any pure form of prazi would be useful here for possible fluke issues. Hope the treatment will work.

Hi Lupin,

This morning the breathing seemed to be more normal but there still appeared to be some flukes hanging from Snuffers facial area, maybe a few less than last night. We'll continue the treatment and see.

On another note, is there any suggestion on the best way to clean the 29 gallon where they were to effectively rid the tank of parasites without having to remove all of the water so we can maintain the bacterial buildup. Like I said, we're going on vacation next week and I don't want to put the pressure of walking a tank through a new cycle on my brother who is being kind enough to keep an eye on the pets. Any thoughts and suggestions would be great.

Oh...any ideas on the yellow brown mark on the belly of Sniffler? I'll try to get a picture later today, but if someone has heard of it, I'm all ears!
