Has anyone ever had a peacock eel that NEVER comes out. I know they are nocturnal. I don't know if he ever eats. The other fish scour the tank for food particles. I saw him out last night. But he disappears when I look at him.

Mine was super shy, I never saw him. I had to dig around in the gravel and pull up all my ornaments and plants a few times just to make sure he was still in my tank. Every so often when I'd get up in the middle of the night, I'd catch him swimming around, but he'd bury himself as soon as he realized he was being watched. I never saw mine eat, after a few weeks of having him and he was still alive, I knew he must have been eating at some point.

What do you have in the tank with him? Any chance anyone is picking on him? (Although nothing was picking on mine, I think they're just on the shy side).

Mines just the opposite. Mine swims around with my angel fish. Loves to be hand fed earthworms. He is very spoiled. I feed him about every other day.
