ok heres the deal i have a peacock eel that is pretty skinny. Resently i went to the lfs and saw a huge fat one and it look all over better than mine. How would I make my peacock eel fatter and happier?

What are you feeding it? and what are it's tank mates? do you see it actually eat?

I know how you feel cause I'm in the same boat... I have an Albino Swamp Eel and he's lost so much weight... I've tried everything to get him to eat but with no results!!

No one is listing the diets they're attempting.

These species would do well with mixed feedings of bloodworms, blackworms, scuds, ghost shrimp, chopped earthworms (or whole if they're large enough), guppies, troutworms, tadpoles, mayfly larvae, crayfish, etc. Anything meaty that they can hunt will provide a good diet for them. These are not the fastest feeders so, ensuring they receive their fair share would be a big step in beefing them up in a comm tank. Feeding them with the lights off will improve their foraging instincts.

oddball I've seen alot of the care bear moderators and yours is the best, where did you even find that? I've never thought of tad poles, are they very high in fat? my Tire track favorite is insect larve

Is the peacock eel very young? in my experience they also tend to be skinny at a younger age and beef up as the age. If he's not eating though thats a different story,

I would consider the potential for internal parasites, ie worms. If he is eating a varied diet, and eating alot. I found feeding my fire and TT earthworms chopped up into bite sized pieces really put weight on my guys. and make sure he's not spitting the bloodworms back out but actually ingesting them. otherwise :iagree: w/ oddball 100%.

btw.. there is something just not right about a carebear w/ bugs bunnies head.... and a rainbow in the background... Oddball your rainbow scares me.

I feed my peacock eals medium to small earth worms from the back yard (whatever they can fit into his mouth w/o choking). His body is now as wide as it is tall.
