Hello,

Would anyone happen to have any information on Peacock Eels? I have been looking into them, and I can only seem to find such a limited amount of information on them.

Thank you,

Shane, :headbang2

here you go http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=50400 there cool but make sure the top of your tankis covered, even the smallest hole bc they will jump out. if you ever cant find him, check in the filter if you have a hangon filter, mine does that all the time. they like fine sand and stuff to hide under or bury under the sand. mine like to eat blood worms and little shimp pices. there cool i would get one. there is a couple different kinds to pick from

I have been going back and forth, whether or not to get a Senegal Bichir & Ropefish, or a Senegal Bichir & Peacock Eel...or even all 3...I would be housing all of them in a 75 gallon tank with other tank mates (large & peaceful tankmates mind you). What do you think would be wiser? Two of the Three, or all three in the tank WITH the tankmates?

Thanks!

Shane, :woot:

well i have all three in one tank except the rope fish. mine do fine. but if you get them all the same size and each one kinda has there own little area to hide and stuff, you should do fine. i would go for it bc i am thinking about geting a ropefish to go with them

do they come in different colors and how do u tell m from fem?

Hey man,
I'll do it if you do it! :D I would absolutly LOVE having all 3 of these in one tank as well as the tankmates (considering the tankmates I've picked out are VERY peaceful, and bigger than the Senegal so they cannot be eaten). I bet thought that you'd have the chance for all three quicker than I will. PLEASE let me know how it goes!

Thank you so much!

I've been reading up on these eels a lot lately, as I really, really want one or two myself, and you want to be careful what kind you end up with if space is an issue. They all beong to a class known as spiney eels, and the peacock eel is one of the smaller varieties, growing to a max size of about 18". But Two other varieties, the tiretrack eel and fire eel grow nearly twice that size, which may be what you want... but maybe not. And an in-between eel is the zig-zag eel that gets to about 25". They all eat pretty much the same thing, like shrimp, bloodworms, earthworms or red wigglers, etc. They will also eat small fish if any are available, and they are mostly nocturnal, so don't be alarmed if you don't see them much during the day. A length of PVC tube makes a good cave for them to hang out in.

They also burrow so sometimes all you see is thier snout sticking up out of the gravel

Hey guys!

I just wanted to see if somebody could tell me how the 75G tank would work out with these fish plus a Peacock Eel addition.

My Future 75 Gallon Tank
------------------------------
- Senegal Bichir (1)
- Ropefish (1)
- Gourami (4)
i) Kissing Gourami (2)
ii) Moonlight Gourami (1)
iii) Three-Spot Gourami (1)
- Peacock Cichlid (1)
- Bristlenose Pleco (1)
- Peacock Eel (1)

Or does the addition of the Peacock Eel make things seem a bit crowded?
Thanks again!

Shane,

IMO it will work if it is a 75g long style (72"x18"x13") but will be crowded if it is the tall style (48"x18"x21").
Just make sure you have great filtration, You might see the moonlight gourami get picked on by the 3 spot.
