Well today I went to PetSmart to pick up some feeders for my Florida Gar when I looked into the Spiny Peacock Eel tank to see if someone could catch my eye since I've been looking for a replacement for Crunch... My 7 inch that died of what I honestly believe was exhaustion. I look in there and I see a refular Spiny Peacock Eel but next to him under the rock was this huge freaking Spiny Peacock Eel I mean this thing was about as around as a quarter, almost half dollar size and about 9 or 10 inch long so I was like I will take him please. So I get him and start to really look at him.... Something just isn't right... My 5 month old 8 inch "Slither" is not as long and almost half as big around as my new Eel "Crush"... After getting him out of his bag and into the water I relized he doesn't have even close to the color pattern?!?!?!

He's has the same skin pattern on his back as your normal Spiny Peacock but except for when you move to his sides he has a large dark green stripe with a slim line of dark green above and below and his body is much plumper??? Is it some kind of hybrid or something? I have been looking around and can't find anything?

Pics will be up soon, don't know if they will help though it's from my cell phone.

pics please :) its impossible to figure this out without them. oh, and when you go to take the pics, would you mind maybe putting something up against the glass for size comparison, like a tape measure or something?

it might be a tire track, they have roughly the same colors but a different pattern.

Sounds like a tyre track or fire eel.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS

The stripe sounds like a Striped Peacock/ One-stripe Spiny eel.

We still all need:
Pics, pics, pics.

Here is a pic:

See how dark green those stripes are??? It's pattern is just not normal for any of the Spiny Eels... It is still close to a Peacock but still it's dark green!?!

Can't see any orange/red circles/rings on the tail - does it have any?

If so, then it's most likely
Macrognathus aral - One-Stripe Spiny Eel

If not, then it's most likely
Macrognathus siamensis - Siamese / Striped Peacock Spiny Eel (these have white outer rings with black centers)

Either way though, take a better pic

This is actually incorrect. Macrognathus siamensis is the Peacock Spiny Eel, not the Striped Peacock. The Striped Peacock, and the One-Stripe Spiny Eel are one-and-the same, Macrognathus aral. M. siamensis is more common, and grows to roughly half the length of M. aral.

Judging by the pic (as blurry as it is), I can say pretty comfortably that you don't have a regular Peacock. It looks very similar to my One-Stripe/Striped Peacock.

Try to get a full body shot for certainty.;)
