Hi i need some expert help...i had a pearl couple..the male was coloring up and female had eggs..so i put them in a 10 gallon tank in quiet place..the tank has some amazon plants.and i placed a lid on top of water...the tank was covered..
After 3 days,i saw the male had built a nest of 5 cm diameter(in the morning)
but wen i got back from work in the evening the nest was not there...and same thing is repeating for 3 days for now..today also same thing happend..morning he had very big nest and afternoon it has been reduced and iam sure nothing remains in the evening:irked:

is this normal?
will this affect the male??(becoz he wont eat anything)
wat happens to the eggs inside female?
how much it takes for a male to build a nest??
how much time a fish can survive without food??

i hav sponge filter..but its been switched off becoz it disturbs the nest...and also i hav put a plastic lid of a container(works like Styrofoam cup i think)

Not having a filter running isn't the best idea, your beneficial bacteria need oxygen to process the fish waste. If he isn't maintaining the nest, he might just not be up to breeding yet. Offer some live foods, and maybe bump the temp a bit.

So should i turn on the sponge filter although there wer several attempts by the male to build a decent nest????

I would leave the sponge filter running, just lower the airflow with either a valve or a clamp. Your fish will not breed if they are not conditioned to do so even if everything else is perfect.

ok i will keep the filter on with low airflow..wat u mean conditioned??iam new to this hobby..but i see both male and female playing together and male trying continuously to build nest which fails every time..iam worried about them becoz they are not eating anything

Conditioning refers to offering your breeders high quality water and foods like bloodworms and mosquito larvae. Separate the two and feed them a lot of live foods for a couple weeks. Once she looks like she's carrying a bunch of eggs, reintroduce them. Keep the water warm and they should spawn for you. Good luck
