Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else has a pair of pearl gouramis and have witnessed the following behaviour and can tell me whether or not is a sign of courting or of agression?

My two pearls seem quite comfy hanging around together however last night (I've only had them for 2 days) they started behaving oddly towards each other. They would come in close facing each other and then come in so they were "kissing" then move out from each other again. This was repeated several times then they kind of got distracted and went around doing their normal pearly things.

Can anyone tell me whether they are lovers or fighters..? I would not have a clue how to sex them so am unsure as to whether or not they are even a pair....

Thanks :D

How big are they? They don't usually breed below 3 1/2 " long. The males have reddish orange throats and breasts along with more pointed dorsals, They do sometimes push at each other in squabbles but seldom go beyond that and are one of the more mellow gouramis. Here is a link about breeding them. http://www.aqualandpetsplus.com/Gourami, Pearl.htm

They are only roughly 2 inches so Im thinking that your probably right and they were just having a little squabble.

I'm also still not sure if they are both male or not...one has some orange on its bottom fin and the other im not 100% on neither of them have really obvious orange bellies as yet so perhaps they are still too immature to sex properly.

Well fingers crossed they turn out to be a pair...

Thanks for your help.
