Hi guys. So a couple months ago I bought 4 split pearl pups 2 males and to females (10-11cm). I already had a group of 10 Cyphotilapia frontosa 10-14cm and 2 merodontotus tigrinus 20-25cm. One of the males was growing much faster. He was also dominant as hell. Like taking nips out of the other rays and when feeding he would rather eat a piece of food an other ray is eating than finding an other piece. He would chase them till they give up that piece and went for an other piece.

2 weeks ago 1 added an albino pearl male (10-12cm) so a bitt smaller than the other rays which where around 15-16cm at that time.Except that one male which was around 18cm. I know I had to much males so I wanted sell the smaller pearl male.
But after 2 or 3 days I saw that the bigger male also had nipt my albino.
So as much as I loved that male I gave him to one of my mates.
Which left me with 2 males and females.

After that the rays where much more relaxed (the 2 females and the albino) the other male pearl is changed.
He is behaving a bitt differend.
He still eats but not as much as before.
Nothing to worry as he still gets a nice bum after feeding. But he also hides allot in the sand.

I honestly don't get it. I thought now the bigger male is gone he will be much more active but its the opposite.

I got an security cam in front of my tank so I really watch them as much as I can. I looks like he misses his bully.

I did not change anything else. I still do water changes. Every wednesday and sunday 30% and fill with only cold water (been doing this for years with the bds i had). Water is 29-29,5 degrees. Nitrate 20, nitrite 0, amm 0 GH, KH and PH also 7 as usual. My tank is 235 cm long 95cm width and 70cm high. Filtration a sump(20x95x70) and a fluval fx6.
Also an powerhead 8000lh and more than enough air.

I mostly feed them a speciale food. It looks kind of like frozen pellets but its made of spinach, broccoli, garlic, carp, chicken, mussel and smelt. Sometime bloodworms. I feed them atleast 2x a day but mostly 3x times a day.

Maybe its nothing but just to be sure if someone has experienced something like this.

I agree with cutting out the chicken and rather add tilapia , shrimp..

I would also feed twice a day only.. 3 times could be too much and then they not so hungry
As long as he is eating and looking fat, i wouldnt worry too much yet.... reduce feeding to twice a day and keep an eye
He hasnt been in the tank long so maybe just give him a bit of a chance to settle...

I have also found that my black rays are much more active and full of mischief than my brown rays... dont know if its just mine or if is a species trait

I cant cut the chicken out. I will make a picture of it in a bitt. Its a total mixture thing

I had never given chicken meat to my rays before. But this mixture I got now is from an international stingray breeder. He gives this food to all his rays even all the albino rays. I can't use his name because i made a promise to him. They use this for over 10 years now. I must say I forgot to make a picture of it. I will try to do it tommorow

Do some serious research on the lipids in land based animal fat and the effect on internal organs of stingrays. There is no doubt it drastically reduces the lifespan of freshwater stingrays. At the end of the day, you're going to feed the rays what you are comfortable with...but I really hope you research this for your own good and the long-term health of your rays.

A breeder doesn't always do what is needed to keep the rays alive for their longest lifespan, the focus is on breeding and growth etc. It also doesn't mean they know everything. Many people talk about stingray breeders but it isn't hard to get a randy male to breed with a ripe female. I do not believe Aquaman45 would ever feed chicken and he is one of the most experienced ray keepers (and prolific breeder).

Guys im so sorry i was so wrong with the chicken. I asked the breeder. It isnt chicken! I really dont know how I came up with that. It has the following ingredients: spinach, broccoli, garlic, carp, shrimp, mussel and smelt. He laughted so hard when is asked him about chicken.
Sorry for the confussion guys
