I`ve been offered some pearl rays & castexi rays from my supplier, but what I know about them I could write on a postage stamp.I know a lot of ray fans use this forum, so I`d welcome any help not readily found on the net from you all.Feeding, tank set up etc. etc. They are 10-12cm in size.

The basic info found is the same as most rays. Keep in mind, the rays your looking at get huge

never buy a ray if you are uneducated on keeping them. They require lots of attention and health issues are easy to overlook by the untrained eye

I would refer to the sticky on the different ray species in the stingray forum. I am sure they are expensive as I stated they havent been around. One thing, you are talking about a 3 or 4 inch ray so it is pretty much a newborn and wild. So pearls at that size can be a bit diffucult to id vs some of the motoro complex and can be tough to surive the long trip from the amazon with the required fasting.

I would want to see it eating in person before buying. and if you post a pic I am sure someone could positively id for you.

If it all looks good get the pearls as the bloodlines on this side of the world are very limited.

I`m sorry I didn`t make it clear in my thread. I`m a buyer for a lfs & I`m sure any ray fan who wants one will know how to keep this species,it`s not an investment made lightly. As to their health, they will have a health certificate issued from the Singapore health authorities which although not infalible is a good indicator that no disease is present. The fact that they are firstly imported to Singapore then to their final destination also indicates they are eating well.Is there anything to look out for that makes their handling different from motoros?

I have a wild caught castexi in a shop and it's a real struggle to get him feeding consistently well with people always walking past the front of the tank. When there is no traffic in front of the tank he feeds like there's no tomorrow, mostly on live worms. I started him in soft water with low ph and have gradually bought him up to a ph of 7.6 and am now doing water changes just using tap water and dechlorinator. Lovely fish to keep and worth all the effort.
