So I got a nice Pearlscale Goldfish for my mom, she also threw in about 10 neon tetras for looks as well. Well she just called me telling me that the neons are a great snack for Shinju (the goldie). I had to clarify for a moment, but it is true....the goldfish is eating the neon tetras. Anyone ever heard of this?

Even though this is true. I've seen 12"+ goldfish kept with 2" swordtails with no problem. Did your mom remember to feed them?

Yes, goldfish aren't really supposed to be piscavores but it's not uncommon to hear of them eating smaller fish. I've seen some people keep them together, and they are fine...I think it's the individual fish. I actually had a big oranda try and eat an otto...24 hours later the otto was still stuck in his mouth, and I had to cut the otto out of there (the goldfish lived).

Yeah, apparently this was ONLY happening DURING feeding time while the neons were aslo getting fed. I just have never owned a goldfish, so I had never witnessed that behavior.

I think we both know that is almost a blank statement. Giant danios will not try to eat little danios.

Not surprising. Goldfish are very opportunistic. They should not be kept with anything that will fit their mouths easily. They will try if they think their mates fit in their mouths.

Your telling me if you put danio fry into a tank with giant danios, the giant danios won't eat them?
