On monday I bought a 2.5 inch jag and put him in with my other CA's, RD and pearl scale. As I expected the RD picked on him for the first day or so until I started hearing some splashes and I saw my RD trying to get to the jag but the pearl scale was chasing him and the dithers away from the jag, he continued to do this for a couple days until the RD seemed to get the idea not to mess with him
I think it's pretty awesome how the 6" pearl scale is protecting the 2.5 inch jag and they are both males
and the RD is about 3" but pretty bulky

have you guys heard of anything like this, I heard of snakeheads doing it but thats it

Its not that he is protecting the jag, Just asserting his dominance. It just so happens to help the jag out. The carpintis doesnt preceive the jag as a threat, but precieves the rd chaseing the jag as a threat to his superiourity. Hope that makes sense.
I wouldnt be suprised if the carpintis turned rouge and kills everybody, but all weighs on personal temperment.

huh, cool
I figured it was something to do with dominance but this sounds nicer lol
I'm surprised he hasn't killed them yet, usually he kills anything in the tank that isn't a cichlid
he did pair up with my old convict and he's been a bit nicer since
he does seem like a bit of a puss though, very skittish when it comes to any activity around the tank
